Harvest Time!

Tonight after dinner, we headed down to Dustin and Daphne's to tend the garden. Drew thinned out the corn, Dustin hoed, I raked, and the girls looked for beans to pick. We were all very excited when we saw that we had a good many beans ready to be picked.

Here is one of two potatoes we harvested tonight. We are really excited our garden is doing so well right now!

Drew and I were talking tonight about how wonderful it is to "grow stuff." This first harvest of beans was enough for both families to cook for a dinner but not enough to can yet. Hopefully, we will be able to can enough to last through the winter and into next summer until the next crop comes in. It is also really wonderful to be able to share this experience with our girls and show them how to be somewhat self-sustaining. I'm personally excited to show them how to can beans once we get enough as it is a great thing to learn. We'll post more as we have more progress!
