Today we went through our "Smart Box" we got from the library yesterday. Smart Boxes are themed kits that contain 20 books plus activities such as puppets and puzzles. There are over 60 themes including families, seasons, patterns, art and music, letter land, and weather. They have one box in each of the categories for 2-3 year olds and then 4-5 year olds. This is the first one we've gotten and we chose "nature." The books were really great and included "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. One of the activities was some laminated "food" like the caterpillar ate with a caterpillar hand puppet. As you read the story and the caterpillar eats, you let the kids slip the food over the puppet. Then, at the end of the story, when the caterpillar becomes a butterfly, there are some butterfly wings the children can wear. Needless to say, our girls ate that up and took turns wearing the wings and being a butterfly. Here are some pictures of them as a butterfly...
