Show Me Those Pearly Whites!

Yesterday was another "first" in our family...Evie's first trip to the dentist. We had talked about it and what all was going to happen. I have to say that she really was looking forward to it, especially getting a new toothbrush as she was in need of a new one. Mary Fran went to hang out with Daddy at the office and wait for Grandmama to come and pick her up and off we went to the big "D." We went to Dr. Airy here in town and were very pleased. I had called around to some different dentists here and in Wilkesboro and found they had the best price. Not to just settle on the price point I recalled that MaMaw had told me she read a glowing recommendation from a mom to one of the local papers for Dr. Airy and his office. Drew and I decided this was the one for us.
The hygienist there is named Charles and he did a GREAT job of making Evie feel comfortable. He showed her all of his tools and demonstrated what they did so that there were no surprises. She hopped right up in the chair, put on the glasses, and away we went!
He first counted her teeth (she has 20). She had counted 15 by herself, so very close, huh?
Next came the cleaning. She was very glad he had bubble gum flavored toothpaste as that was the flavor I had growing up. Yes, we had detailed conversations about our dental experiences.
Next was the washing. She closed down on the "sucker" without being told and thought nothing of it. Charles says he has some adults who aren't too found of that thing! Charles also had an instrument that checked for cavities just by pressing it against the teeth. She passed that test with flying colors!
Dr. Airy then came in and counted her teeth. She didn't even mind his crazy glasses!
One Dora toothbrush, a small toy, and toothpaste later we were out of there! She did such a great job and Drew and I are both so proud. Next year we'll take Mary Fran along on the trip just to show her there's nothing to be afraid of.
After the dentist, Karen very generously treated all of us to lunch at Panera and Aunt Molly even came along. What a double treat! We then went back to Grandmama's to put MF down for a nap and Evie got started on her resttime. I had to run to the grocery store for a few things and then to a haircut at 2. Then it was back to Grandmama's to pick up the girls and take them to Ward's dermatologist's appointment at 3:30. Let me tell you, when you don't live right in town you get as much done as you can when you're there. Anywho, I had called yesterday morning to see if they could move Ward's appt to yesterday from Thursday as his face has gotten some better but is not completely better after almost 2 weeks on an oral steroid. After discussing it with Dr Sparks, we decided he needed to see a pediatric dermatologist. I called the dermatology clinic at Baptist in Winston-Salem and we were able to get an appt in the pediatric dermatology clinic at Brenner's Children's Hospital for next Tuesday at 9. Hallelujah!!!! Hopefully, we will be able to determine if this is atopic eczema or something else and get it treated and gone.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention my angel of a sister-in-law, Daphne, who provided dinner for us last night. She invited us to eat with them but I told her it was better if we just went on home because I needed to get ready for preschool today as I was the teacher. She said, "No problem, just stop by on your way in and I'll have it boxed up for you to take home." What a blessing beyond words! Thank you so much, Daphne, for your servant's heart. There just aren't words to describe how thankful I am not only to have you as family but, more importantly, as a friend.
As I said above, we had preschool today. Can you guess what letter it was? That's right...Z!! Yes, it was our last "regular preschool" day and, unfortunately, Heath had to miss as he was still getting over a stomach bug. We had a great time, though, learning about animals at the zoo, making zebras, and learning about Zaccheus. You want me to sing the song? No? Oh, come on, it'll be fun!
Although this was our last "formal preschool" we plan to have some play dates this summer with education in mind. You know what though, one of the best things about homeschooling or home education is that it's life. We have "school" everyday because our children are with me and we get to take advantage of every teachable moment that arises!
