Several weeks ago I got to talking to a lady while waiting to get my hair cut. We hit it off and started talking about having lots of children (she has 4 boys all within a little over 5 years of each other). We discovered that they live just down the road from us and have all kinds of animals including horses, chickens, cats, dogs, and sheep. She said that their boys had been asking for animals and they decided to start when their oldest was 8. The boys had all the responsibility and she related to me how wonderful it has been for them (they are all teenagers now). I told her about our home preschool and she invited us over for a "field trip" saying that early April would be good because the sheep usually have their lambs around then. Remembering that, I e-mailed her earlier this week but hadn't heard from her until I got a call Friday late afternoon. What a wonderful surprise it was when she told me one of the sheep had given birth to a little lamb that day (they weren't expecting it so soon) and we were all welcome to come and see it. The Rowan's weren't able to come but both sets of Petrey's headed over Saturday morning.
Evie was enamored with the lamb and had no trouble warming up to it. Ward was a little fussy as he was tired but warmed up to it soon enough. Mary Fran became quite upset at seeing their (docile) dog and elected to stay in the car by herself for a while. We are working with her on being brave and ways to keep her fear in check. :)
The Sloan's have 3 full grown horses and a couple of foals. Here is the oldest and most docile of them, a beautiful black horse named Scout. Evie, of course, LOVED that. The girl is a horse lover.
We didn't ride on this visit but James sat up on Scout and Evie joined him. She was in heaven! We had such a wonderful time and really appreciate the Sloan's allowing us to come over and take up some of their Saturday morning. We are planning to go back this Saturday to check on the lamb and maybe even ride Scout some. :)
