A Grateful Heart

We've been sick for a week and a half now.  Cade then Mary Fran started with the bronchiolitis last Tuesday which spread to Evie and then Ward later in the week.  Cade was already on albuterol nebs every 2-4 hours, so when Ward started coughing Thursday night we had a hairpin trigger set for starting him on breathing treatments.  Evie had been up 2 nights last week throwing up and Ward had been up some during the night as well.  We thought we were getting better when Ward started with a 102 temp Friday night.  We knew what we were in for...hand foot and mouth disease (HFM).  This came from our nieces who we thought had poison ivy.  The next night after we were around them my sister-in-law told me they figured out it was HFM.  Ward's rash started Saturday and his fever ran through that day.
It was at this point that I began to start to think, "What else, Lord?" but He very quickly rebuked me by giving me perspective.  Nothing we have was life threatening nor was anyone approaching the chance of hospitalization.  Ward's bronchiolitis did not send him into a tailspin as was quite possible.  Even if HFM went through all the kids the worst would be we'd be "quarantined" at home for a little while longer.  That would be OK.  At that point tears sprung into my eyes as I once again realized how gracious and merciful our Lord is.
Cade ended up getting HFM this week but all is well.  We are blessed.  Even in our trials and what can feel like day to day drudgery we are blessed beyond measure.  There has been lost sleep and our children long to play with their cousins and neighbors again but it has been good to pull our wings in these last several days.  He fills my cup and it overflows.
