FIELD TRIP!!!

That's right, we had a field trip yesterday. I remember always being so excited whenever we would go on field trips in school and my children are no different. We packed up yesterday in the snow (yes, it's the end of March but it wouldn't be almost April in Western NC if there wasn't snow) to have a little tour with our local librarian(s). Daph and her girls were a part of it, too, but unfortunately the Rowan's couldn't make it due to illness.

Mrs. Peggy was the main one in the children's area to give us the tour. She started out with a slide show telling us about the best way to treat our books. She did a great job and I think it reinforced everything we have been teaching at home. Sometimes it sticks a little better when you hear someone else say it, you know? :) Mrs. Peggy then showed us the areas where different types of books are in the children's section. This was such a big help to me because I wasn't aware of where everything was categorized. We are very fortunate to live within 15-20 minutes of both the Watauga and Ashe County libraries and frequent them both. It's been a little tough for me to remember where things are between the two so to now have that knowledge was great! We visited the Ashe County one yesterday and they are so accommodating, as always. Mrs. Peggy and Mrs. Kathy helped us find horse books (for Evie), cat books (for MF), cow books (for Ward), and homeschooling stuff (for me). They also have great DVD's both educational and religious. Both Watauga and Ashe have DVD's in "The Animated Stories from the Bible" series from Nest Entertainment which I would highly recommend. The best part, though, was that all three of our oldest were able to get their very own library cards! Do you think they were excited?

After looking through several of their picks, we brought home three big stacks of books along with several DVD's and videos. It was a snowy morning well spent.

You know, I have to say that I am so proud that my children readily recognize the library but ask, "Is that a big grocery store?" when we go by the mall in Columbia. :)
