Well, yesterday was the day for Ward's 2 year and Cade's 2 month check-up. After dropping the girls off to play with Grandmama, we headed on to the appointment. Ward was pretty excited but I think it was more because he would get to ride in the elevator, push the buttons, and jump on and off it. :) Our pediatrician, Dr. Lonas is just wonderful and it's always a pleasure to go and see him. Actually, all the doctors at Blue Ridge Peds are great and I'm so thankful we have them here. I'll detail the stats below under each of their pictures so you can look for that. Overall, both boys were "practically perfect" as Dr. Lonas said. Ward is still in the lower percentile for weight and height but there are no worries as he's growing and following his own line...and active as the good doctor got to see. ;) The boy also showed off his new Thomas the Tank Engine underwear and Dr. Bobby was thoroughly impressed. Ward enjoys the approval of the males in his life. :)
We talked about Ward's breathing issues when a cold hits him and he said he feels it is "recurrent croup." The prognosis is a 30/30/30 deal. About 30% of children who have this will have it a couple of times and never again, 30% will have this 3-4 times a year until about 6 or 7 years old when their airways get larger, and 30% will go on to develop asthma. Basically, we'll just have to wait and see which path Ward will take but the thought is that he'll probably outgrow it. Nonetheless, Dr. Lonas gave us some oral steroids to keep at home so that if the weather is "primed" and he starts getting a runny nose we can start him on it for a few days to head off any breathing difficulties (Albuterol is OK as well). As he said, "You are welcome to call and come in anytime but hopefully this will save you a few trips in. As long as he doesn't need them more than 4 times a year, we're good." I just love the way Dr. Lonas knows when to be aggressive and when to wait and see.
Without further ado, here are some recent pictures of our boys and their "stats:"
Ward weighed in at 22.2 lbs and 31 inches tall(3-5% for both)Ward has a whopping ;) 8 lbs on Cade and they're 23 months apart. But hey, that's more than Mary Fran has on Ward (7 lbs) and they're almost 25 months apart!
