Faith Mountain Farm

Wednesday we went on a "field trip." Actually, it was a fun trip to see another family we are acquainted with who live on a farm. The Wilkes moved from 5 minutes from Boone out to Creston, NC (30+ minutes from Boone) about 5 years ago to a farmhouse on 65 acres and established Faith Mountain Farm. They have a booth at the Farmer's Market and we have thoroughly enjoyed their Lemon Poppy Seed muffins as well as some of their produce.
The drive is beautiful as well as the land they live on. I have been acquainted with Shannon, the mom, for a few years now but always wanted to get to know her better. The opportunity has presented itself recently and I asked her if we might be able to come out and visit as our children would love to see their animals, I wanted to take her up on her offer to gather some herbs they had, and I also wanted to talk with her more about how they do their "homeschooling."
We had a great visit. They have seven children (2 girls, 5 boys) from 18 years to 18 months. The kids had a great time playing hide and go seek, etc. and Shannon and I had a great time talking and laughing. Here are some pics from our trip...
They have a couple of rabbits that we got to feed some dandelions and plantain. Evie, Mary Fran, and Ward all got in the mix. Here Ward is trying to pet one of them.
Lots of chickens on this farm. Here was the first lot of them. Lillian, on the right, is the best chicken catcher I've ever seen. She is only a few weeks older than Evie.
Some fresh eggs. One of the boys gathered them and one was still warm. Evie loved it!

Here's Lillian holding one of the hens for Evie to pet. How cool is that?!?

After some animal seeing, we played on the playset and then got on their trampoline. They all enjoyed it. We've got to get us one of these...if only we can figure out where to put it. :)

Thanks again, Wilkes family, for letting us come out. We are looking forward to coming out again in warmer weather for some creek swimming!

This, of course, was not taken at the Wilkes' but I had to post it. Tonight, Drew played this great song for us from YouTube. To say Ward enjoyed it would be an understatement.
