This weekend was quite full but quite fun. Thursday night Dad, Brenda, and Grayson came up to stay for the weekend. My dad turned the big 6-0 on July 29th and he said he'd like to come up here to celebrate and escape the oppressive Columbia heat. Of course we said, "Come on up" and they did. We just hung out around the house on Friday and ate in. As you may have read in the last post, I was making applesauce a good part of the day but the girls certainly enjoyed playing around with PaPa and Uncle Grayson. :)
Saturday morning we headed out to the Farmer's Market and got some great produce for our big meal Saturday night. Then, we visited with MaMaw and PawPaw and graciously accepted a wineberry pie PawPaw made for me. (Unfortunately, I had to share it but I did get 2 1/2 pieces. :) I am pregnant!) After naps for all we got ready for dinner. Drew grilled some beautiful steaks Dad and Brenda had brought up to lead off the collards, peaches, and baked squash, zucchini, and potatoes. We topped it all of with coconut pie (Dad's favorite) and a "Happy Birthday" serenade.
Sunday we all went to Shatley Springs which is a great little Mom and Pop restaurant near the Virginia line (~20 minutes away) that serves country cooking family style. Breakfast, as you can well imagine, is amazing there. We very much enjoyed pancakes, biscuits and gravy, country ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, and strawberry preserves. It was delicious!!! After we came home, all our guests left for home and we rested from an eventful weekend. We had a wonderful time with our family and celebrating Dad's 60 years.
