Red, White, and Bluegrass

Yes, it has been a week since the 4th and, yes, it has taken me this long to post. We had a full weekend and have been busy this week in the midst of recovering from said weekend. My apologies.

Anywho, the story goes that back in May we bought weekend passes to the Red, White, and Bluegrass Festival in Morganton, NC (about an hour from our house). It was a great deal as our children were free and our tickets were really reasonable. First of all, let me say that the park where the festival was was beautiful and very well laid out. You could camp (tent or RV) but we decided to drive back and forth. The festival started on Thursday and we partook Friday, Sunday, and Monday evenings. We arrived Friday afternoon and set up under a nice, shady tree. It was a good bit warmer there than up here on the mountain but we were OK.

Did I mention that the park was great? They had this incredible playground that the kids loved. Mary Fran and Ward enjoyed these swings that were really low to the ground and easy to get on.

Here MF enjoys some of the other "ropes" part of the playground. Evie had fun going up and down the slide and all over the place. She told me Friday night, "I wish we could have this playground at our house." I told her that the playground probably cost as much as our house. :)

Ward close up Friday night we saw some friends there and one of them had one of these 14 year cicada on him. Drew thought it picture worthy.

There were tractor rides given and, of course, we had to take one. Here was our trusty driver.
Evie having a big time!

Proof Cade was there :)

We stayed home Saturday as there were not really any bands we were crazy about hearing. Sunday we went down after church and it was HOT!!! Yes, I do live in the mountains and it doesn't get that hot up here but I did grow up in Columbia, SC...the hottest place on the planet. So, I know what hot is and it was hot Sunday in Morganton. We arrived about 4ish and found a shady spot. The girls were doing OK but Drew looked at me after about 45 minutes (and some ice cream) and said, "The boys are wilting." He was right so we decided to leave the chairs set up and ride around for a bit until the sun went down some and it cooled off. When we got to the car the thermometer read over 100. Thankfully, it cooled off pretty quickly and we went back for the evening concerts.

This would be how Ward handled the heat.

Monday we went down in the evening to find that there was a 2 hour delay due to weather. Ricky Scaggs, the main headliner, was to go on at 8 with fireworks at 9:30. Well, he didn't start until 9:45 and we had to leave at 10:30 so Drew wouldn't be too terribly tired to go to work Tuesday. Therefore, we didn't get to see the fireworks (which we heard are the best around) but watched some on You Tube Tuesday. :) Overall, it was a great weekend but the late nights have caught up with us. Hence, the slack blogging. Tune in tomorrow (maybe) for pictures and stories from Tweetsie yesterday!
