Our Christmas Eve

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve this year. It was made even more pleasant knowing that there was no threat of any ice whatsoever. :) Drew had off the whole day so we enjoyed being with him as always. Around 5 we headed up to the "Big Petrey's" for our annual Christmas Eve dinner, service, and opening of presents. As usual, the service that Daphne put together was great. Here are a few of the highlights...
Dus played a few songs for us to start after praying.
Ruthie and MF with their Grandmama
Wardy loves his Granddaddy!
Here's the order of things for the night
Meme read a verse for us from Isaiah
This year Mamaw blessed us with a great story about the joy of giving as opposed to getting. The story was written on the backside of the paper with pictures on the front for the children to see. In years past, Ernie (Paw Paw) read to the children and it was really nice to have Mamaw keep that tradition alive. Thanks, Mamaw!
Captivated by the story
Jules enjoying the scenery
Cade was just happy to be there and was as good as gold the whole evening (even though he didn't get to nap like normal).
After the story Aunt Daphne had a narrative with "key words" in it for different characters to say different things. The children got to dress up like...
...Evie being Mary. "Who me?" she would say whenever "Mary" was uttered.
Of course our Mary Frances was the angel saying, "Good News!"
Ruthie played Joseph beautifully asking, "Are you OK, Mary?" when his name was mentioned.
Ward, with the help of Aunt Molly, was a shepherd. Can I say TOO CUTE?!?

After a lovely dinner we partook in opening gifts. With 7 grandchildren it went really well and each was patient while waiting for their turn to open their next gift. Here's Ward getting another pocket knife to add to his collection. All the Petrey men collect different ones and Ward has been started on "Tiny Trappers." Yes, he's in his PJ's. He and Mary Fran asked to put them on before we started. :)
We had a great time and really enjoyed being with our family. It's also always so good to remember how blessed we are not only with our family but with the eternal life Jesus offers.
