Heard at Our House Today...

This morning Evie, Mary Fran, and myself were playing "Memory" while Ward took his little catnap. Mary Fran had said she wanted to get the rocket cards as a match. She was having a hard time as she was having trouble remembering where they were. It was Evie's turn and she was very much going to be the winner having made several matches a couple of turns before. It was getting down to the last ones and was Evie's turn. The last four cards remained. MF had just asked Evie not to get the rocket ones so that she could. Unfortunately, Evie decided to go against her sister's wishes and get them anyway. Oh, boy! MF let out a spine straightening scream and started crying. I told her to go to our room and wait for me. Evie and I talked about what had just happened, being selfish, and a much better way she could've handled it. She was repentant and then it was time to go deal with MF and her screaming. This is something we have been intensely working on with her lately and helping her to express herself more appropriately. I go into our room, talk with Mary Fran, and give her an appropriate punishment. She calms down and we talk again about how she could've handled it better and used self-control. Then this comes out of her mouth:

Me: "What Evie did was wrong and I have dealt with her on that. But remember that you could have handled that a lot differently."
MF: "Next time I'll say, 'Evie, remember that I wanted to get the rockets.'"
M: "That's right."
MF: "Evie was like Zaccheus."
M: (stifling laughter) "Really? How was she like Zaccheus?"
MF: "Zaccheus stole from the poor and Evie stole those cards from me!"

At least we know she's listening when we talk about different Bible stories!

And earlier this morning:

Evie: "Mommy, I have a new game for us." (not an unusual thing these days)
Me: "Oh, good! What is it?
E: "Well, you know that bucket I have hanging from our doorknob?" (something she rigged up using a play kitchen measuring cup and string yesterday)
M: "Yeah."
E: "Well, from now on when you want to come into our room, you need to put a piece of money in it."
M: "Evie, that would make your daddy very proud."

And it would because he actually did that as a young child. She did not know this and came up with it on her own. Evie is her father's daughter. Here's to entrepreneurship!
