Seein' the Chicks

Saturday morning Drew told the chil'uns that we would head over to our friends, the McDill's, to see a little surprise they had. I didn't know what it was either so off we went. After stopping off at the playground where they were for a few minutes, we went on to their house where their 24 new chicks were eating and heating themselves. That's right, the McDill's are raising chickens for eggs and then eventually the meat. :) We had considered doing it but decided to maybe wait a year or so with a new baby coming and having 4 kids 5 and under. I have no doubt, though, that soon we will have some under our back deck. Our "farm girl." Seriously, this one belongs on a farm. She loved the chicks and had no problems holding them whatsoever. Mary Fran, not so much, but she's getting there.
Kinda crazy looking picture with the heat lamp but just wanted to show most of them huddled around the feeding trough.
Ward eventually decided he wanted to get down and see them. I think he even petted one of the ones Evie had. We had a great time and are looking forward to seeing these little chicks grow. Thanks again, McDill's!
